The SP10 Survey

Well, I decided to join my first online group participation thingy. I just heard back that I was accepted into SP10 which starts in March so I figured I should post the survey. I will do an actual update post either later tonight or tomorrow after work. Until then ya’ll.

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?
At this point I have used alpaca, merino wool, and acrylic yarns. I have a hankering to try silk and a wool/silk blend, but so far I haven’t broken down and added to the stash. I would hate to use acrylic on anything other than baby blankets (which Baby Soft is good for). So far I would have to say that the alpaca is my favorite, but haven’t tried enough o say for sure.

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?
My mom got me a neat needle roll thing for Christmas with teddy bears on it. I am waiting to purchase the KnitPicks Options storage book until I have a few more needle tips and cables.

3. How long have you been knitting & how did you learn? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?
I have only been actively knitting for about 8 months, but have known how to knit since I was a teenager. I would say that I am a beginner-intermediate knitter since I am more than a beginner, but not yet an intermediate knitter.

4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?
Not yet, but I may add one at anytime.

5. What’s your favorite scent?
My absolute favorite scent is my perfume – Dark Vanilla. It has all those yummy vanilla undertones with darker notes, but nothing that I am allergic to.

6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?
I love white chocolate candy and homemade fudge, but try to limit myself.

7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin?
I don’t spin, but I do dabble in a lot of other things. I scrapbook, make cards, beading, know how to crochet (don’t though because it hurts to much), dabble in floral design and sewing, love to cross stitch. I have also dabbled in dying yarn, but have so far only been able to use Kool-Aid. I am unable to try the acid dyes because I live at home with my parents and they don’t think that would be a good idea since I am a clutz.

8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)
I listen to most older country (the 80’s & 90’s), Metallica, Nickleback, Default, some other rock & alternative artists, classical occasionally – Basically anything that catches my attention. I listen to most music using my computer.

9. What’s your favorite color(s)? Any colors you just can’t stand?
I love rich, bold colors. I love deep blue, deep green, deep reds, chocolate brown. I cannot stand purple.

10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?
I am divorced and live at home with my parents. We don’t currently have pets, but I am trying to talk them into a dog.

11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos?
I live in Alabama so scarves are about it. Hats give you bad hair days (I have super curly hair) and ponchos just emphasize how heavy I am. Mittens/gloves might be nice sometimes, but I normally lose them.

12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?
Right now I am really into scarves. I own patterns for several shawls – Wing-of-the-Moth (knitspot.com), Seraphim, Icarus, Hidcote Garden Shawl, Adamas (the last 4 are mimknits.com), Print-o-the-Wave (eunnyjang.com, Candle Flame Shawl (knitpicks.com), the Fir Cone Wrap (wendyknits.com), Kiri (alltangledup.com and the Snowdrop Shawl (yarnharlot.com). I am currently waiting to see the stole/shawl that Pink Lemon Twist (pinklemontwist.blogspot.com/) is working on (on her blog she refers to it as Mindy’s Stole).

13. What are you knitting right now?
I am currently, actively working on a baby blanket for my sister, Sunset Seraphim, and facecloths.

14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts?
I love to receive handmade gifts as they show that the giver really thought about the gift. They just seem to mean more to me.

15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?
I will use straights, but I really prefer circulars (especially the Knit Picks Options). I have tried bamboo and plastic, but prefer aluminum/metal.

16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift?
Don’t own a yarn winder yet, but do have a swift in the making. I found the instructions and my grandpa is making me a simple swift. I don’t let this stop me from buying skeins of yarn though. If I like it – even if it means winding it by hand I will buy it.

17. How old is your oldest UFO?
My oldest UFO is Sunset Seraphim – at least in knitting – and it was started before Christmas ’06.

18. What is your favorite holiday?
Christmas is my favorite holiday because I love to spend the time, effort and money to give gifts to those that are closest to me. I basically give to my parents, my sister & her husband, my grandparents and the aunt I am closest to. I feel that if you go giving gifts to everyone you know that they mean less to those that mean the most.

19. Is there anything that you collect?
Teddy bears – I am absolutely wild about Cherished Teddies, but will also collect stuffed teddies, teddy bear pictures, stickers, note cards, and just about anything else that has cute teddy bears on it.

20. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?
I am drooling over Victorian Lace Today and A Gathering of Lace. I would love to try some Socks that Rock especially in the Stormy Weather, Downpour and Scottish Highlands colorways, Fleece Artist and that Sea Silk stuff.

21. Are there any new techniques you’d like to learn?
I basically try any new techniques that I find that I want to try when I have the time.

22. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements?
I am not currently a sock knitter. I would love to try it, but don’t want to try it with $20 of sock yarn and have been unable to find a cheap sock yarn other than through Knit Picks. Not sure about exact measurements, but I do have a big foot. I wear anywhere from a women’s size 10 to 11 and have a wide front foot with a narrow heel.

23. When is your birthday?
September 23 – I was born in 1980
