Can you believe this?

My grandfather likes to dabble with wood working. Dabble does not describe the results he gets though. He has made my mom a gorgeous mirrored shadow box for her wall with a matching console table for it. They look very professional and not at all like you would expect to hear him talk - he claims that they are not the best, can you imagine that?

Well, so while looking for a yarn swift I found a link to directions on how to make your own yarn swift. Well knowing I didn’t have the skill it would take to make the really simple version in the directions I emailed them to my grandpa and asked him if he could make me one. Well, he called to get more detail about how they are used and different things like that and asked if I minded if he changed the design to work better for me. I said I did not mind a few weeks later I got a copy of the design drawing in my email. Now I have been advised that it has been mailed and I was sent some photos that my grandma took.

The design is made so that it can be broken down and stored in a smaller space and it is vertical instead of horizontal so that I can leave it put together when it is in use and I don’t have time to finish making a skein into a ball since I have to do that by hand right now. I am pretty sure that I am going to be getting a ball winder soon now that I will have this. I will upload better photos once it gets here. Also, I will post later or tomorrow with an update about my knitting. So, with no further ramblings here are the photos.

No time to blog….

I just got my copy of the Yarn Harlot’s new book so I don’t have time to blog today.  It has been a rough couple of days after a very rough weekend.

Have been knitting and frogging.  Have some photos to show ya’ll, but it will all have to wait until after the Yarn Harlot.

Just a quick update

No the sock is not done yet.  This is due to there being 2 new projects on the needles that unfortunately are gifts so no photos.  I have been very busy between work, school, and getting ready to go out of town this weekend.

Yes that is right I am posting to let ya’ll know I won’t be posting over the weekend.  I will be back late Sunday night so should be able to post again Monday.

Oh, yeah I am going to see my sister 1 last time before the baby is due.

Wow….sorry about that

I am sorry that I was unavailable so long. I hardly felt much pain right after the extraction, even though the numbing shots had already worn off (I don’t numb well or for very long) so I went gallivanting around town. I stopped at CVS to purchase some water and hair things and then took a lovely trip to the LYS.

I walked away with 2 sets of Crystal Palace Bamboo DPNs in US 2 (another set of bamboo DPNs had already come home with me the night before as my stitches were constantly slipping off the metal DPNs) and several yarn purchases. I went back to the LYS a few days later and walked away with yet more sock yarn. Then my mom and I went to the LYS so I could shop for my SP10 pal. I have already figured out most of what I want to get her, but am leaving some free to purchase a big item once I get to know her better.

I managed to finish the first sock and I have already made it to the gussets on the second sock. So far there have been no symptoms of second sock syndrome to report.

Well, on to the yarn purchases. I got some more Koigu KPPPM to make me some more socks. I also picked up a skein of Trekking pro natura and some yarn they had displayed made up into a pair of socks called Jojoland Melody. There was also some Regina Bamboo purchased to make Fiber Trends Raindrop Lace Socks (could not figure out how to link to the socks directly, but you can go to www.fibertrends.com and go to accessories and find them - I think they are on the second page of accessories). I just loved the colors and immediately thought of rainy days (which are some of my favorite days - as long as there are no tornadoes). So when I saw this pattern in the LYSs book of sock patterns I just had to buy it and make them in this yarn.

During the trip with my mom I found out that she is allergic to wool, but she still wants the wool shawl as she will of course wear that over long sleeves. This put a halt to my making her a pair of hand knit socks until we found the Panda Cotton. We looked at it and she is going to pick out a color or two for me to use, but she wants me to concentrate on finishing some of the projects I already have on the needles before making some socks for her. She did say that she thinks my sister might enjoy some hand knit socks due to having large feet (between a 11and 12 in US sizing).

I also found a black sheep tape measure from Lantern Moon that just had to come home with me.

With no further ramblings here are the photos of the yarns.

Well that is it for tonight, chat with ya’ll later.

Just a quick FYI

I had a wisdom tooth extracted today so while I may be reading blogs and keeping up with my email I will most likely not be blogging for a couple of days.  I just don’t think I will feel up to it, but if I am I will post.  So fellow bloggers don’t worry if I disappear until the weekend.  Until then I will be knitting away.  The first sock is almost done (I am working on the toe) and then the next one will go on the needles immediately to try and avoid this second sock syndrome I have heard about.

Until later, ya’ll keep yourselves out of too much trouble (unless it is the fiber type of trouble).
